Course description
This workshop invites participants to explore the relationships between themselves and their things, their attachment to them and how they think and potentially – when engaging in the free play of meaning-making – think otherwise with these things through the material practices of (queer) use.
The things we think with can be any-thing: art works, theory, poetry and literature, the books themselves as physical objects, photos, materials, commodities, everyday objects (tools or utensils, but also memorabilia or bric-à-brac), garbage (e.g. leftovers and broken objects), pieces of clothing, decoration, and so on; that is, the things that we live with, that we inhabit and navigate worlds with, and imagine and build worlds with.
In the workshop we will look at art, read poetry and theory, and combine different artistic exercises where participants will work with both personal and found things, and experiment with methods of writing along these, staging them through photography, and develop actions around them to create a score / a performance with them.
Throughout the week, participants will share reflections, engage in group feedback, and document their process. We conclude the workshop with the production of a collaborative catalogue featuring the texts, images, and artistic works produced during the workshop.

Teachers
Lise Margrethe Jørgensen is an associate professor at the Funen Art Academy (FAA), where she teaches art history and art theory at the BA level. As an art historian, she is interested in art’s performative figurations of subjectivity, corporeality and identity, as well as the viewer’s attachment to works of art and posing the question of “what it is that we get out of our love for art” (J. Doyle). Jørgensen is educated from The Funen Art Academy and holds a BA and MA in Art History from The University of Copenhagen.
Diana Lindbjerg is an associate professor at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, NTNU, where she teaches Material Gestures, a course focusing on the process of thinking through making and exploring physical materials. As an artist, he is interested in the relationship and resistance between idea and manifestation, and her style of teaching focuses on exploring methods and thoughts alongside students to allow for the individual to identify new paths of enquiry into their learning process.
General KUNO Eligibility Rules:
- only BA and MA full-degree students from the KUNO network schools can participate;
-exchange students from other institutions, which do not belong to the KUNO network, studying at one of the KUNO network schools, CANNOT participate;
- full-degree students from the KUNO network schools, currently on exchange at another institution, CANNOT participate (neither with nor without the KUNO grant).
